Has God ever taken something away from you to get your attention back on him?
I can think of many examples of God using things that were central to my life taken away because they had consumed me and broke my relationship with the Lord. The countless injuries that seemed like him hating me, struggles with depression and anxiety seemed like him pushing me too far. The thing that I failed to realize during all these times I was stranding myself from God and he was trying to reach out to me and pick me up in my brokenness.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you: I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
I was playing in a basketball tournament, and went up for a routine layup, as I jumped another player jumped too and fouled me hard, we both fell to the ground in pain, after a few seconds the other player got up and walked to the bench to be treated. There was one problem I was stranded, I had broken ankle and when I tried to stand, I collapsed back to the court. One of my teammates helped me hobble to the bench, so it was off with the shoe and ice for the rest of the game. A few minutes later a man from the stands ran down he saw something and rushed out of the stands and down to me. Within seconds he picked me up and literally cradled me like a baby and ran me into a locker room. My ankle had lost circulation and because it already was hurt, I didn’t even realize it. You may be asking why this does matter? What does this have to do with God?
This random stranger who I didn’t know or, to be honest, care to know saw & cared for me when I didn’t even know I need to be cared for. God is the same way at some point in your life, you didn’t know you needed Him. He still loved you and wanted to protect you, to pick you up from a bad situation and save you from the chaos of this world. This man who I later found out was an EMT, wasn’t asked to help but like God still did, God finds us at our weakest, sometimes when we don’t even realize we need him and gets us out of a hopeless situation. When we are broken and covered in sin God picks us up and shows the only way to a new and better life. He gives us a purpose and mends our brokenness into the creation he intended us to be.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
This week we looked at what it means to be stranded and the hopeless and lost feeling you can go through when separated from God, but the light at the end of the tunnel is the truth. While we may feel separated from God, he is always there no matter the situation, God is there. He has your back in everything you do, he will never challenge you more than you can handle, and, he loves you, he loves you, He Loves You!
