Missing Jesus and Christmas Miracles

Have you ever been in the midst of a storm and felt a crazy, unmerited sense of peace? Well, I can now 100% attest to that. I have felt peace before but never to the illogical level that I felt this December. Martin and I were almost dumbfounded by this sense of peace that basically took over. Let me explain, for months Martin and I had been planning a Christmas Musical…

Hidden in Plain Sight

We have looked everywhere and it is still missing. What do we do now? That is pretty much how I feel about my daughter’s lost iPhone.   It seems like it would be difficult to really just misplace a phone in the world we live in today, but we have managed to do it. As Kailtyn last remembers, she had her phone in her room when Debra called from the kitchen for her to come…

We’re All In This Together

Can I brag about my kids for a minute? By now, I’m sure that pretty much everyone has met my children, Caroline and Mitchell.  Caroline is nearly four and Mitchell is a couple of months shy of being a year and a half, and the speed with which they are growing up is astounding to me.

Stressful Blessings

My life has been defined by big moments, as most lives have. I have experienced many things from huge hope to devastating disappointment. Life is funny how it cycles, but there is a new experience that struck me on November 9, 2015. STRESSFUL BLESSINGS. Sounds crazy to label blessings as stressful, but hey if the label fits…

Consider the Ant….

We all know that we need rain. The amount that we have had this year is amazing; especially when compared with recent years. However, I think we could all admit that this year’s numbers are a bit skewed. We might very well be above our average rainfall for the year, but the fact that so much of it came in basically two or three days means that we have had some…

The Stay-cation

What did you do last weekend?  If you’re like me, your weekend plans were altered somewhat by the rain that we experienced. My family had originally planned to take advantage of the three-day weekend by taking a little trip to the coast with my parents.  We love to go to Port Aransas, and so my dad had booked a condo on the beach and we all planned to enjoy a…

Quick Pick-Up Deception

I was speaking with some fellow church members and we were talking about the cleaning that you get done before people come over. Isn’t it interesting how much cleaning gets done right before someone gets to your house? I mean throughout the week, you can’t find the time, but then there you are in the last hour before they arrive, and your house is “cleaner” than it has…

Stuck in the Middle

I think we can all agree that no one likes to be stuck in the middle of a difficult situation. Whether it is dealing with an issue at work, playing referee at home, or trying to step in and help a friend, these can make for pretty stressful times for us. However, I have to admit, I am stuck in the middle of a pretty good situation these days.

What Are We Missing?

Did you see that video of the college kids taking selfies at a baseball game? Chances are pretty good that you did – it’s been all over social media – Facebook, Twitter, and the like – for several days.  The video is good for a chuckle, and perhaps some reflection on the nature of our culture and the ubiquity of technology that distracts us from…
